RICS WHOLE LIFE CARBON PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT update

The WLCN has formed 8 working groups to create an updated version of the RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment Methodology. The work is funded by BEIS, and the scope of work will be structured within the following categories:

The intention is to update and expand on the existing document. The work will be published in the summer of 2022.

Overview of the Consistency Project:
This proposal will therefore examine the RICSPS 2017 in detail and identify key areas for improvement and adjustment These will include, but not be limited to the following:

Default values for use at the early project stages to enable better strategic decision making.

Improved Operational energy use carbon emissions guidance.
-
Improved assessment guidance for Structure (IStructE Guidance reference).

Improved guidance for the embodied carbon assessment of all building services, MEP (CIBSE TM 65 reference).

Update in relation to new and emerging Standards (eg; BS EN 15978, PAS 2080).

Additional guidance on Infrastructure.

Additional Guidance on Construction Stage A5.
-
Additional guidance on sequestration.
-
Review of the reporting matrix.
-
References as appropriate to Retrofit.

Update and alignment in relation to ICMS v3.
-
Engagement with RICS on risk and carbon assessment reporting.
-
A review of the global applicability of the language and content.
